Mullein leaf, also known as Verbascum thapsus, is a soft, velvety herb traditionally enjoyed as a soothing herbal tea. For generations, herbalists have used mullein to support respiratory wellness, comfortable breathing, and the body’s natural mucus-clearing process.

Our dried mullein leaf can be steeped on its own or blended with your favorite herbs to create a warm, earthy, caffeine-free tea.

BENEFITS

Mullein leaf is traditionally used to:

• Support overall respiratory wellness
• Help maintain clear, comfortable airways
• Support the body’s natural mucus-clearing process
• Soothe a dry or irritated-feeling throat
• Support normal lung and bronchial function
• Provide naturally occurring antioxidant plant compounds
• Create a relaxing, caffeine-free herbal tea

Mullein naturally contains plant compounds such as mucilage, saponins, and flavonoids. Mucilage is known for its naturally soothing texture, while saponins are traditionally associated with respiratory and mucus support.

FUN FACTS ABOUT MULLEIN

Mullein is sometimes called “nature’s candle” because its tall, dried flower stalks were historically dipped in wax or fat and used as torches.

The mullein plant can grow more than six feet tall and is easily recognized by its large, fuzzy leaves and tall stalk of yellow flowers.

Although the leaves feel soft and velvety, they contain extremely fine natural hairs. These tiny hairs are why mullein tea must always be strained thoroughly before drinking.

HOW TO MAKE MULLEIN TEA

  1. Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried mullein leaf to 8 to 12 ounces of hot water.
  2. Cover and steep for 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Strain extremely well before drinking.
  4. Enjoy warm or allow it to cool and serve over ice.

For a stronger herbal infusion, steep for up to 20 minutes.

IMPORTANT STRAINING INSTRUCTIONS

Mullein must be strained through a paper coffee filter, tightly woven tea filter, or several layers of fine cheesecloth before drinking.

A basic metal tea strainer may not remove all of the tiny natural hairs found on mullein leaves. These hairs may irritate the mouth or throat if the tea is not strained properly.

Do not consume the loose leaves directly.
